DESIGN SERVICES / CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT / OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Companies face a continuous challenge of managing and measuring risk and life-cycle total cost of their projects, this begins with trying to find the correct design team.
Typically, companies rely on the submission of a Request for Proposal (RFP) to help select their engineer of record for their project.
This process, although a solid approach to selecting the right teaming partner, creates several precautions that need to be addressed to validate the right partner is selected. These include ensuring the following components are included in the RFP:
- Clear definition of the project Scope of Work – clear deliverables, quality, schedule, and sustainability.
- Describe the outcome of the project – technical performance, capital cost, life cycle costs, and schedule.
- Define Coordination Intersections – promote continuous communication and project integration.
- Establish Expectations – avoid assumptions, define staffing requirements, and milestones.
Once the Owner has gone through all the effort to develop a great RFP, share it selectively. Owners should prequalify firms based on their related experience, project approach, client communication skills, knowledgeable subject matter experts and depth of financial and human resources. Only send the RFP to firms with the highest qualifications in these and other client required attributes deemed best suited to perform the work and deliver a successful project.
