Concept planning is a key starting point for any successful project. With our depth of experience across a wide range of industries, platforms and solutions, Wunderlich–Malec engineers are well positioned to apply “best practice” and “best architecture” solutions for our clients.
Working side by side with your engineering staff, Wunderlich-Malec teams can provide or assist in the following critical areas of concept planning:
- Developing controls system architecture. Choosing the best hardware and software components to fit the application.
- Evaluating and pricing various options to provide a range of solutions that can be evaluated for ROI.
- Overall job-cost estimating, including control hardware, constructed control panels, engineering labor, startup and commissioning, and electrical installation. Depending on customer needs and the stage of the project, this can range from good faith estimates for project preliminary budgeting needs to fixed-price quotes.
- Developing or extending engineering standards. Designing for the big picture and long-term build-outs even on small projects allows for future expansion and growth without redesigning the control system. Drawing numbering standards, device tag numbering, unit of operation definition and others are all key building blocks for consistency and efficiency in delivering quality projects.
- Utilizing an extensive internal library of drawing/ACAD standards to develop or enhance customer-drawing standards for Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), and electrical schematics.
- Utilizing an extensive internal library of programming templates and standard methods to develop or enhance your programming standards. Documenting your HMI standards for everything from screen sizes to color definitions, template faceplates and alarm handling, which allows you to choose the best fit for your plant and ensure operations consistency.
