| Case Study
PROJECT: A city serving 145,000 residents needed to bring its Water Treatment System up to Federal Standards by removing radium from the water supply. The city decided against building a new Water Treatment Plant and instead chose to retain the existing well system, add more wells to meet increased demand, and build and outfit ten new treatment sites with HMO radium removal equipment in order to bring the water supply within Federal limits.
CHALLENGE: To design and build the SCADA and Telemetry system to service the city's needs, having every site operate identically, and install the new system with no downtime to service.
SOLUTION: Wunderlich-Malec Environmental planned our portion of this project using a phased approach where the order of equipment replacement was strategically chosen to maintain system operation during installation and start up. The design of this project consists of a UHF and Wireless Ethernet based telemetry system for over 30 locations: the ten new HMO water treatment plants, existing water storage facilities, wells, and booster stations. The system includes historical data collection, remote system connectivity and monitoring, and a system-wide Ethernet access card controller security system with controllable access to various facilities and operator entry logs for all locations.
RESULT: The City achieved a successful, secure SCADA and Telemetry System installed and implemented while maintaining reliable delivery to the residents. |
